How to Prevent Your Car From Being Stolen

Anything you can do to slow down professional car thieves will make your vehicle a less appealing target.
Want to make your vehicle less attractive to car thieves? Here are some ways we recommend to help drivers protect their vehicles:
1. Avoid leaving valuables inside your vehicle where passersby can see them
2. Some cars come equipped with an inbuilt steering lock. When you turn off the car and remove the keys, turn the steering till you hear a click/lock sound. The keys will have to be put back in to unlock the steering. Cars with push-button automatically lock the steering when you turn off the car.
3. Install an anti-theft system in your vehicle as this can easily deter a car thief. E.g steering lock, pedal lock, Ignition immobilizer, GPS Tracking system, etc
4. Keep your vehicles locked at all times even when driving.
5. When parked, never leave your keys in the car. Close all the windows and the sunroof.
6. Do not leave your original vehicle title papers in the car or you could keep them in a secret location in the car. Too often a car thief is pulled over and gets away from the police because he or she can produce the auto registration documents.
7. Know where you’re going. Avoid known high crime areas.
8. When parked in a public area; such as the mall, gym, stadium, church, mosque, avoid parking at the outskirt of the parking lot. Try parking as close to the entrance of the building or an area covered by surveillance.
9. Thieves prefer to work in the dark. Be particularly cautious at night about where you park your car. Park it in a well-lit area if possible.
10. If confronted by a carjacker, do not resist. Cars can be replaced; you can’t.
